Spectral consequences of magnetic flux

The spectral properties of Schrödinger operators with periodic magnetic
fields depend in a very subtle way on the magnetic flux. Different cases
(zero, rational and irrational flux) require quite different approaches.
I will review these approaches and emphasize the different ways in which
magnetic fields introduce curvature into the otherwise flat setup.
